 These can be classified into physical factors and psychological factors.

A. Personal factors:

1. Age: In order to have effective learning physical maturity is essential. Learning cannot take place to the maximum extent if the individual age does not suit to the learning task. For example running can be taught after the legs are grown and become strong.

2. Maturation: For productive learning, maturation is essential. That is the individual has to be matured enough to master the learning tasks. Complex activities cannot be taught to children or feeble minded individuals. In the laws of learning, Thorndike proposed the law of readiness that maturity of the individual.

3.Fatigue: It is not possible to teach new tasks to the mind. A boy cannot be forced to solve more mathematical problems when he is tired mentally that is in a state of fatigue. Fatigue is of two types, physical and psychological. Rest is needed to overcome physical fatigue where as relaxation is needed to combat psychological fatigue.

  1. School factors: School is an important place in the life of any individual because it is there that the child spends more than ten years of his/her precious life. More over they are the formative years. Hence the culture of the school and school environment plays a significant role in the learning of the child. Physical facilities like comfortable seating good ventilation fresh air and water, teaching and learning aids, library facilities, play ground and other facilities make learning everlasting. The curriculum must aim at the all round development of the individual.
  2. Home factors: Home is the first school of the child. So happy and encouraging home environment is a good stimulator of learning. It is at home that actual learning starts. The home must provide social and economic security. Children must enjoy love and affection at home. Parents have to provide the needed guidance to the child. Learning through imitation or observation starts at home itself.
  3. Social factors: Society is a place where children come into contact with a wide cross section of people belonging to different regions, castes, cultures, languages, etc., It is the second important place next to home in strengthening learning.
  4. Media influence: The medium of mass communication, like print media, electronic media, etc are important factors of mass education as well as class education. In the light of privatization and globalization the influence of mass media on education is felt from lower level to higher level of education.
  5. Natural factors: The modern education is highly influenced by natural factors and environmental factors. The school eny must be pleasant and stimulating. Sometimes some natural factors like earth quake, floods, tsunami eyc may come in the way of effective learning. Similarly, environment pollution particularly sound pollution generates disgust and fatigue in students.
